LAHORE: The government won’t give Pakistan People’s Party a freehand in Sindh, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiqu
e said on Sunday with regard to the recent removal of inspector general of police by the PPP.
“The PPP wants its handpicked man to be the IG Sindh,” lamented the minister. “We won’t name the IG of PPP’s choice,” he asser
ted.
Criticising the PPP leadership, Rafiqu
e said Asif Zardari should not talk about corruption and governan
ce, as his party had ruined Sindh with its policies.
Earlier, the minister formally launched the commercial services of modern 4,000-horse power freight engines, which were imported from US.
H
e said that Pakistan Railways had purchased a total of 55 locomotives from the US, out of which 14 ha
d reached Pakistan, adding that remaining will be provided by July this year.
H
e said that the purchase of these state-of-the-art engines had been done under the country’s Vision 2025 so that the freight share of Railways could be enhanced.
The minister added that out of 55 engines, 22 will be used for transportation of coal to the Sa
hiwal Coal Power Plant, while the rest will be used for freight trains.
